Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) Policy

At Flexitricity, our core mission is to operate and enable more flexible, secure, and dispatchable energy to support the growth and integration of renewable generation with the grid. We are deeply committed to creating a greener, decarbonised energy system and actively supporting the UK’s Net Zero targets. Our approach to sustainability extends beyond energy; it encompasses responsible business practices across all areas of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) efforts.

Supporting the transition to net zero

The UK’s journey towards net zero has been clearly mapped out in Ofgem and BEIS's Smart Systems and Flexibility Plan, which emphasises the need for a smart and flexible energy system to meet climate goals by 2050. Flexitricity is at the forefront of this transition, serving as a leading route-to-market provider for energy flexibility. Our diverse portfolio includes everything from multi-MW grid-scale battery storage and aggregated EV chargers to flexible generation and load management at industrial, commercial, and domestic sites. These assets provide the essential flexibility needed to help National Grid ESO manage the variability of renewable generation, contributing to a greener, decarbonised energy system as we collectively strive toward net zero.

Sustainability

Operating sustainably is central to our business. We are committed to practices that benefit the environment, create fair work opportunities, and positively impact society. This commitment is evident both in our large-scale efforts to enable grid flexibility and in targeted projects, such as funding the planting of native trees in the Scottish Highlands as part of a rewilding initiative.

We believe a sustainable future requires collaboration and transformative changes in business practices, policy, and government action. To this end, we employ a dedicated Head of Regulation and actively participate in energy transition discussions with BEIS, Ofgem, and National Grid ESO. We also engage in critical code modifications through our trade body, the Association of Decentralised Energy. Our parent company, Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners, reinforces this commitment as a signatory of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment, a member of the Net Zero Asset Managers Initiative, and a foundation sponsor of The Centre for Climate Finance and Investment at Imperial College Business School in London.

Data protection and cyber security

In today’s energy landscape, cybersecurity is paramount. Flexitricity has implemented rigorous data protection and cyber security measures to safeguard our customers' assets and information. We are a founding member of the Association of Decentralised Energy’s Flex Assure scheme, which sets the industry standard for best practices in areas such as data protection and cyber security. In 2021, Flexitricity successfully passed the first-ever Flex Assure audit, underscoring our commitment to maintaining the highest security standards.

Inclusive workforce

We are committed to fostering an inclusive, diverse, and supportive workplace at Flexitricity. Promoting equal opportunities and flexible working, we strive to create an environment where all employees are treated with respect and dignity, free from discrimination and harassment. We prioritise mental and physical well-being, offering seminars on mental health awareness and encouraging physical activity through initiatives like the virtual challenge to walk or cycle around the coastline of Great Britain during the COVID lockdown.

Flexitricity also collaborates closely with local universities, supporting PhD and Masters students, many of whom become full-time employees. We ensure all new hires receive comprehensive training and support to meet both personal and company goals.

Human rights

Flexitricity is dedicated to upholding internationally recognised human rights standards. Our policies and practices align with the ten principles of the United Nations Global Compact, which cover human rights, labour, the environment, and anti-corruption. Our approach supports global initiatives to combat human trafficking, slavery, forced labour, and child labour. We also expect our suppliers to operate in line with our ethical standards, outlined in our Code of Conduct, and perform targeted due diligence to identify and reduce risks related to human rights and modern slavery in our supply chains. Concerns are managed through our established whistleblowing framework, supporting transparency and accountability.
