Short Term Operating Reserve (STOR)

Short-Term Operating Reserve (STOR) is used by National Grid to manage unexpected imbalances between electricity supply and demand. When grid demand exceeds available generation, STOR provides a fast and flexible solution, with National Grid calling on assets to increase generation or reduce demand. STOR is especially important during peak periods or when unforeseen events cause system stress. Participation in STOR offers consistent revenue opportunities for flexible assets that can be dispatched with minimal notice.

What we do

At Flexitricity, we optimise assets for participation in STOR, ensuring that they meet the technical requirements and maximise revenue potential.

  • Asset Suitability and Preparation: Our team works closely with customers to assess and prepare assets for STOR participation, ensuring they meet the technical requirements for fast, effective response.
  • Control Room Dispatch: When a STOR call is received, it comes directly to our 24/7 Control Room. From there, we automatically dispatch the assets to increase generation or reduce demand, ensuring a rapid and coordinated response to grid needs.
  • Real-Time Monitoring: Our Control Room provides continuous oversight of asset performance during STOR events, ensuring that assets respond precisely and efficiently to National Grid’s requests.
  • Strategic Price Optimisation: Our advanced platform analyses market conditions to select optimal price points for STOR participation, helping customers maximise their revenue potential from each event.
  • Data Capture and Reporting: We capture detailed performance data for each STOR event, providing comprehensive reports to National Grid.
