The 2026 Capacity Market prequalification window closed at 5pm on 29 September 2026, covering the T-1 2027/28 and T-4 2030/31 Delivery Years.
We’re pleased to have submitted 113 applications, totaling 486MW across the two Delivery Years. Of this, 121MW was submitted for T-1 and 365MW for T-4.
Reaching the submission deadline marks the culmination of many months of work. Each opportunity is assessed individually to determine the most appropriate route to market, with our team working closely with customers, generators, DSR providers and other external partners to gather the evidence, signatures and supporting information required for each application.
Information is carefully validated, applications are collated and entered, and every submission is reviewed multiple times before being finalised. This year brought particular challenges and complexity, making the successful submission of 113 applications even more significant.
A huge thank you to everyone involved, especially Shahena Begum, whose resilience and dedication have been instrumental throughout the process. The successful delivery of this year’s submissions reflects the commitment, expertise and hard work of the entire Capacity Market team.
The Role of the Capacity Market
The Capacity Market plays a critical role in maintaining the security and reliability of Great Britain’s electricity system. As the energy transition accelerates and renewable generation continues to grow, it provides a mechanism to ensure sufficient reliable capacity is available during periods of peak demand.
The prequalification stage is an important part of this process, allowing participating assets to demonstrate that they meet the requirements to take part in the relevant Capacity Market auction.
Technology Applications
This year’s applications cover a range of technologies, including existing generation, storage, and both proven and unproven Demand Side Response (DSR).
For the T-1 auction, we submitted 31 applications: 19 Existing Generating, 9 Proven DSR and 3 Unproven DSR applications. Together, these represent 121MW.
For the T-4 auction, we submitted 81 applications: 22 Existing Generating, 1 Existing Generating – Storage (2 hour), 16 Proven DSR and 42 Unproven DSR applications. These represent a combined 365MW.
The range of applications reflects the breadth of our portfolio and the variety of technologies that can contribute to the Capacity Market, from existing generation and storage to proven and emerging DSR opportunities.
What Comes Next
With 113 applications totalling 486MW, this year’s submissions represent a significant contribution across both the T-1 and T-4 Capacity Market auctions.
The applications will now progress through the next stages of the Capacity Market process. Results will be published by close of business on 10 November 2026, when we will have greater visibility of the outcome of this year’s submissions.
